Overview[]

A Film Exhibition Licence is required for anyone who wishes to exhibit films classified as NC16, M18 or R21.​

Types of Licences[]

​Film ​Exhibition Licence[]

The Film Exhibition Licence is required for companies or organisations that wish to exhibit films classified as NC16, M18 and R21.

Film Exhibition Licence (Temporary)[]

The Film Exhibition Licence (Temporary) is required for the exhibition of NC16, M18, or R21 films for a period of up to 30 days.​

Exemptions[]

​A Film Exhibition Licence is not required for ​exhibition of G, PG rated and PG13 films.

Fees[]

​Film Exhibition Licence[]

One year – $600

Three years – $1,500​

A security deposit of $20,000 by cheque or a bank guarantee will have to be furnished by new licensees. MDA will review the licence annually and return the amount to qualifying companies or organizations.

Film Exhibition Licence (Temporary)[]

Fee – $100 for a period of one month

A security deposit of $10,000 by cheque or a bank guarantee will have to be furnished per exhibition point. The deposit will be returned upon licence termination or licence expiry.​

Application procedure[]

Any company or business registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) may apply for a Film Exhibition Licence. During the application process, the applicant must submit a business proposal providing the MDA with an overview of the film exhibition/business mechanics. The type of age-check mechanisms the applicant will be employing to ensure that the age- restricted videos/films are exhibited to patrons who are of appropriate age must be included. Note: the applicant must be one of the Directors listed in the company. Otherwise, the applicant is required to submit an official Letter of Authorisation (obtained from the Director of the company) together with the business proposal.​
